This is where I talk mostly about Young Adult and New Adult books. Thanks for checking out my reviews :)
Goodreads Synopsis:
Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes—and three girls secretly plotting revenge.
KAT is sick and tired of being bullied by her former best friend.
LILLIA has always looked out for her little sister, so when she discovers that one of her guy friends has been secretly hooking up with her, she’s going to put a stop to it.
MARY is perpetually haunted by a traumatic event from years past, and the boy who’s responsible has yet to get what’s coming to him.
None of the girls can act on their revenge fantasies alone without being suspected. But together…anything is possible.
With an alliance in place, there will be no more “I wish I’d said…” or “If I could go back and do things differently...” These girls will show Jar Island that revenge is a dish best enjoyed together.
Review:
This is going to be a spoiler review so if you haven't read the book go read it and come back to see what I thought :)
I was really excited to start this series as I loved To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han! Although I did enjoy this book, I did have some issues with it which I'm going to get into...
One of the biggest problems I had with this story was the girls giving Reeve ecstasy. They kept saying "its only E" but ecstasy is a hard drug that you don't want to mess around with! All they wanted to do was get him kicked off the football team, they could have done that by giving him weed and it wouldn't have nearly killed him! That storyline just didn't sit well with me.
Their revenge tactics were also very immature. I feel it would have been more entertaining if they had taken a 'John Tucker Must Die' approach and maybe have had Mary steal Reeve from Rennie getting both of them at the same time and humiliate them that way. They were taking revenge to a whole new level by not just getting payback but destroying lives.
Another thing, has Mary got super powers? That bit of the story kind of came out of left field! Is it just a coincidence that these things are happening or is this turning into a supernatural story? If it is I don't know how I feel about that or how it would tie in to the overall plot.
Overall it was an enjoyable read even if I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I'm intrigued to read the next book and see where the story goes as at this point I really don't know what is going to happen.
