The Heir by Kiera Cass Review

The Heir - Kiera Cass

Goodreads Synopsis:

Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.

But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.

Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought.

Review:

I didn't think I was going to like this one when I first started it as Eadlyn came across as whiney and spoiled but throughout the book we got to know her more and understand why she is the way she is. I even found myself relating to her character a little bit as I understood her not opening up to the selected right away and wanting to guard herself.

I didn't know what to expect from a selection that involved men suitors but it was quite enjoyable! I liked that not all the guys ended up being gentlemen as there were a couple of dodgy characters which made it seem more realistic. I really loved Kile of course! I would have liked more scenes of the two of them together to see their relationship grow as having both grown up in the palace he understood Eadlyn and they could be themselves around each other. It would have been nice to get a few chapters in Kiles POV to really get to know the selected, to see behind closed doors and find out their secrets and opinions. At this point there's really no telling who Eadlyn could choose or if she'll choose anyone but obviously I'm rooting for Kile :P

I was really surprised by that ending as I didn't see it coming although I probably should have. I want the next book right now to see what happens! Kiera Cass once again did an amazing job of creating a captivating story that keeps you wanting more.
